Amplification of Extreme Hot Temperatures over Recent Decades
نویسندگان
چکیده
While global warming is mostly conceptualized in terms of increases mean temperature, changes the most extreme conditions encountered often have disproportionate impacts. Here, a measure amplification defined as change highest yearly temperature (denoted TXx), representing heat, minus that 80th percentile daily high (Tmax80), which represents typical summer conditions. Based on ERA5 reanalysis, over 1959–2021, TXx averaged 1.56 K land areas, whereas Tmax80 1.60 K. However, population-weighted significantly exceeded (implying positive amplification) Africa, South America, and Oceania. Where available, station observations generally showed similar trends to ERA5. These findings provide new target for climate model calibration insight evaluating changing risk extremes.

Spatial Analysis of variation of inter-annual distribution of precipitation in Iran over recent decades (1970-2016)
Introduction Geographical situation of Iran is a place for interacting many physical and human processes which lead to specific precipitation climatology in the country. The month to month variation of precipitation is one of the features which the precipitation climatology may reflect due to tempo - spatial characteristics. In fact, monthly distribution of precipitation is one of precipitati...
متن کاملExtreme temperatures and violence
In his book Civilization and Climate, Ellsworth Huntington (1876–1947) noted1 that “Almost any American or European who has travelled or resided within the tropics will confess that he has occasionally flown into a passion, and perhaps used physical violence, under circumstances which at home would merely have made him vexed.” This begs the question — why is there no violent conflict when sever...
متن کاملEpidemic malaria and warmer temperatures in recent decades in an East African highland
Climate change impacts on malaria are typically assessed with scenarios for the long-term future. Here we focus instead on the recent past (1970-2003) to address whether warmer temperatures have already increased the incidence of malaria in a highland region of East Africa. Our analyses rely on a new coupled mosquito-human model of malaria, which we use to compare projected disease levels with ...
متن کاملTracking the genome-wide outcomes of a transposable element burst over decades of amplification
To understand the success strategies of transposable elements (TEs) that attain high copy numbers, we analyzed two pairs of rice (Oryza sativa) strains, EG4/HEG4 and A119/A123, undergoing decades of rapid amplification (bursts) of the class 2 autonomous Ping element and the nonautonomous miniature inverted repeat transposable element (MITE) mPing Comparative analyses of whole-genome sequences o...
متن کاملHall Sensors for Extreme Temperatures
We report on the preparation of the first complete extreme temperature Hall sensor. This means that the extreme-temperature magnetic sensitive semiconductor structure is built-in an extreme-temperature package especially designed for that purpose. The working temperature range of the sensor extends from -270 °C to +300 °C. The extreme-temperature Hall-sensor active element is a heavily n-doped ...
